“Since Vatican II we have learned a lot about the use of the vernacular in the Liturgy”, says Bishop Arthur Serratelli, Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Divine Worship.  “And the new texts reflect this understanding.  They are understandable, dignified and accurate. ” Bishop Serratelli states that the new translations “make the text accessible to the listener” and that they “unearth the biblical and theological richness” of the Liturgy.

The International Council on English in the Liturgy is reviewing the changes and is expected to approve them in 2010.

Author Jeffrey Pinyan recently sat down with HGC to discuss the new translations in detail.  He wrote his book, “Praying the Mass: The Prayers of the People”, to explain the differences, the significance and the context of the new translation.

Organizers say that this year’s event will already have a larger attendance than any previous conference. The gathering will include a visit to EWTN’s radio mountain, a day-long retreat led by Fr. Mitch Pacwa, a keynote speech by Archbishop Michael Sheehan of Santa Fe, New Mexico and workshops on improving radio show production. Participants will also have an opportunity to pose questions to Kelly Donohue from the Federal Communications Commission.

Stephen Gajdosik, the president of the Catholic Radio Association (CRA), said that this year’s gathering “will be our largest conference yet. In pre-registrations we’ve already far surpassed last year’s attendance.”

HGC has a lot of work to do behind-the-scenes before we can begin broadcasting on the radio dial. Things continue to move ahead for our apostolate…this is God’s work and it will progress in God’s time.

To bridge the gap, we’ve been doing some fun work.  We started recording podcasts with local Catholic “celebrities”.  These are 20-30 minute interviews which showcase the vibrant work which is taking place in the Lehigh Valley to bring people to Holiness and closer to our Blessed Lord.  We have already completed two of them and they will be posted to the website very soon!
